Development of an Action Plan for the abatement of Atmospheric Pollution a) Mytilini, Lesvos, b) Ioannina, c) Kavala and d) Patras, Ministry of the Environment, Planning and Public Works, 2004-2005.

In the framework of this project, suitable Operational Action Plans for fighting the atmospheric pollution in the areas of interest were developed, in application of the Framework Directive of the European Commission 96/62/EK "for the evaluation and management of the air quality of environment", as well as the affiliated directives with regard to the limit concentration values of the following pollutants: a) Sulphur Dioxide, Nitrogen Dioxide and Nitrogen Oxides, Particulates and Lead (directive 99/30/EK), b) Benzene and Carbon Monoxide (directive 00/69/EK), c) Ozone (directive 02/3/EK). The region of study covers the greater urban, suburban and industrial area of each site. The scope of work includes the appraisal and evaluation of atmospheric pollution levels in the area of study, with the examination of the existing and the future conditions for the years 2005 and 2010 in which the country is supposed to be compliant with the objectives placed by the aforementioned directives regarding the limit concentrationsvalues of the examined pollutants.
