The basic idea of the project was the development of a friendly environmental conscience and behaviour, in carefully select target groups (tourists, pupils and local communities) through a system of environmental motives, in order to activate them to participate in a recycling procedure. The method was developed on a basis of an innovative idea, which is the payment of the activated citizens with hypothetical green currency, acceptable of travel agencies, bookshops and etc. for environmental excursions in biotopes, environmental books, environmental visits. The green currency (green drachma) corresponds to certain quantities of aluminium fins, paper material, glass bottles and special wastes (batteries, lamps, dyestuffs). Emphasis was given on the dissemination of the results, especially by using new technologies (multimedia, internet etc.). Moreover, a comprehensive educational\/training program was conducted aiming at the environmental education and awareness of pupils, communal employees and of tourists.
